Bible Recap Day 3 Gen 8-11

Personal notes from reading Gen. 8-11
After 150 days, the waters decreased.  After so much time on the ark (and I imagine it was an extremely stressful and exhausting and smelly! time), Noah opened a window.  Oh my gosh, can you imagine how wonderful that must have been!!! He sent a raven out of the window and he also sent out a dove. And when the dove found no place to rest, she returned.  He sent her out again a week later and this time she returned with an olive branch. Again, I can imagine this was probably one of the most exciting moments of Noah’s life!! So after another week, he sent out the dove again, but this time the dove didn’t return.

Noah and his family and all the living creatures began life on earth again.  God blessed Noah, but it didn’t take Noah long to fall short. Noah sinned. Noah’s son, Ham, sinned. And shame ensued.  And so it begins again. Noah’s sons and their wives multiply and before long, man allows sin to take over. Again, it’s all about our choices.  When we choose sin, there are always consequences. The pride and arrogance of man lead to the construction of a tower meant to reach heaven and make a name for themselves.

God’s response is always for our own good, even when we don’t understand it.  God responded to the wickedness by humbling man, confusing their languages and disrupting their ability to communicate, and scattering them around the globe.  God could have brought down His wrath, yet He showed mercy once again in His response.

Notes from the Bible Recap Gen. 8-11

The aftermath of the flood:  Change and a Covenant. Things change after the flood.  They are going to start having shorter lifespans. They are in a new place and are tasked with multiplying and spreading over the earth.  God also makes a promise never to wipe out humanity again with a flood and every time we look at a rainbow we can remember this promise.

God shows His sovereignty again in this passage.  When sin sets in and man does not obey, God does what’s necessary for His plan and our good.

My favorite part of this recap is the highlight of God’s redemption. All of God’s children are adapted. Even those seen as the enemy of God’s people have the chance for redemption.

God blesses and He curses.  He’s complex. We all have the opportunity to be adapted into His family.  He pursues us. He pursued me and I chose Him. Just like He found Adam and Eve hiding in their shame and clothed them, He found me and clothed me in the righteousness of Christ.
