Bible Recap Day 8 Job 17-20
Personal notes from reading Job 17-20:
Job felt like he was on trial by his friends and it was a guilty until proven innocent type of ordeal. He felt like he was being attacked and he was their prey. I’m going to be honest. I feel just awful that after all Job had been through, he had to sit and listen to such toxic words from those who were supposed to love and support him. Not only did Bildad get ugly with his words, he tries to get Job to give into them by striking him down with fear. Now isn’t that something!? I’m just going to say it. Bildad makes me so mad in his treatment of Job, I feel like I could punch him right in his beard! I truly don’t understand how any of the friends standing around listening to that bullying mess didn’t stop Bildad right in his tracks. They should have felt moved to say something here, but instead after listening to Job’s defense again, Zophar just continues with the bullying. Christians can be ugly too. Don’t stand for it. Don’t sit back silently and watch a fellow believer bully another with judgement and ugly condemnation the way Job’s friends allowed Bildad to spew at the mouth. And most certainly don’t join in!! Be an upstander!
After being beaten to nothing by the words of his so-called friends, Job knocked me in the gut with his declaration in 19:25! This was my favorite part of today’s reading!
For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last He will stand upon the earth. - Job 19:25
Notes from the Bible Recap Job 17-20:
In the midst of his struggles, Job knows that his Redeemer lives. For Job, this is personal. HIS Redeemer lives. And Job was right about that! The Redeemer lives. And because He lives, we can remain in Him even in the worst of times. Our days on dark paths don’t have to be alone. And just like Job, it can be personal. And I know too that my Redeemer lives!
